Hue Shift Afghan Videos

Posted on February 23, 2022 by KateDos

I’ve made 3 Hue Shift Afghans (from KnitPicks): One Jewel, one Pastel, and one Rainbow. It’s not the only blanket I’ve ever made, but it’s by far my favorite. And while it looks beautiful, it’s actually really easy to knit and great for someone that knows the basic knit stitch.

That being said, there’s a couple of techniques you need to know. A central double decrease (CDD), how to work with two colors, and how to pick up stitches from existing knitting.

I encouraged my mom to expand her own knitting by trying it. To help, I recorded three videos –

  • A video demonstrating how to make a mitred square with two colors (including how to do a CDD)
  • A video demonstrating how to pick up stitches for the next square above the first
  • A video demonstrating how to start a new column

While these were all aimed at her specifically, I’m posting them here in case they help anyone else. Keep in mind, these videos assume you know the basics of how to knit and how to cast on. I used a long tail cast on for the video, but you can use whatever works best for you.
